Matt was in the crowd and he has this to say,
Last night I ventured into Oxford to the Market Tavern to listen to a couple of bands. Among them was a band called "One Dollar Peep Show". Their sound was similar to Garbage in their hay-day with a bit of Goldfrapp thrown in. Worth a listen, but not your usual sort of rock music.
One Dollar Peep Show played a secret gig last night at The X in celebration of Oxford's premier songstress, Chantelle Pike's, birthday. Despite a technical hitch that rendered most of their synthesizers inaudible, 1DPS delivered a storming set of pure electro- punk rock 'n' soul music that had the crowd (most of whom were dressed in drag) hollering for more.
One Dollar Peep Show are currently promoting their debut album 'Showreel', released on the Weird City Electric Company label. Surely the only band to have been compared to both Portishead and the B52's in the same review, 1DPS have recently been garnering rave reviews for their occasional live performances. Ranging from brooding to euphoric, their sound mixes electronics and live instruments in a way that is utterly unlike new rave- and all the better for it.
