One Dollar Peep Show played a secret gig last night at The X in celebration of Oxford's premier songstress, Chantelle Pike's, birthday. Despite a technical hitch that rendered most of their synthesizers inaudible, 1DPS delivered a storming set of pure electro- punk rock 'n' soul music that had the crowd (most of whom were dressed in drag) hollering for more.

One Dollar Peep Show are currently promoting their debut album 'Showreel', released on the Weird City Electric Company label. Surely the only band to have been compared to both Portishead and the B52's in the same review, 1DPS have recently been garnering rave reviews for their occasional live performances. Ranging from brooding to euphoric, their sound mixes electronics and live instruments in a way that is utterly unlike new rave- and all the better for it.

I've just discovered this whilst browsing through flickr! I love this shot. Nigel looks like Bruce Willis in the 5th Element or 12 Monkeys, which is about the opposite of who he usually looks like, and they're playing this huge big top. Wow.
